Opener
Prior to class make a poster of the following terms:
Advance Poll, Ballot, Ballot Box, Canadian Elections Act, Election Day, Elections
Canada, Electoral District, Electoral System, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., Rejected Ballot,
Spoiled Ballot, Voters List, Polling Station. Post this in the classroom.
As a whole class play a jeopardy game What Is? The teacher calls out a definition.
The students answer with the term in the form of a question. For example: The teacher
says “The official who assists the deputy returning officer at a polling station by
verifying that a person’s name is on the voters list and helps with the necessary paperwork.?
A student replies- “what is a term?” Work through all the terms in this fashion.
Avant le début de la classe, préparez une affiche comportant les mots
suivants :
Vote par anticipation, bulletin de vote, urne ou boite de scrutin, Loi électorale du
Canada, jour des élections, Élections Canada, circonscription électorale, système
électoral, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., vote rejeté, vote annulé, liste des électeurs, bureau
de vote. Affichez-la dans la classe.
Avec l’ensemble de la classe, faites un jeu-questionnaire « Qu’est-ce que? ».
L’enseignant lance une définition. Les élèves répondent en utilisant le mot sous une
forme interrogative. Par exemple, l’enseignant dit : « l’agent qui assiste le scrutateur dans un bureau de vote en vérifiant que le nom d’une personne est sur la liste des électeurs et en aidant avec les formulaires administratifs ».
Un élève réplique : « qu’est-ce qu’un scrutateur? » Passez tous les termes de cette manière.
