Background

In most western countries democratic rights are exercised through the electoral
process. However, in many countries there are no elections or the votes are not free
and open. In Canada, our concept of democracy is based on and guaranteed through
the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.Dans la plupart des pays occidentaux, les droits démocratiques s’exercent par le
processus démocratique. Par contre, dans de nombreux pays, il n’y pas d’élections ou
le vote n’est pas libre et transparent. Au Canada, notre concept de démocratie est basé
